Cutting Costs With VoIP

leave a comment »

Companies can benefit from implementing Voice over IP (VoIP) in their call centers, more so if they do it through a service provider, says Tim Wyatt- Gunning, joint CEO of Storm. He says cost savings on voice calls using VoIP range from up to 40% on international calls to countries such as Europe and the US, and up to 70% to destinations such as Japan and China, compared to using Telkoms telecommunications infrastructure.

Keeping Prices Down

We are able to keep our prices on an even keel by negotiating good bandwidth rates in the competitive international carrier market, and there are plenty of alternative routes.
He says the company has been able to reduce its VoIP rates by 30% over the past 18 months by negotiating better rates with international carriers. About 10% of outbound calls from call centers are international, 50% to cell phones, 20% national and the balance are local within 50km.

Huge Call Center Savings

Call centers can save an average of 40% on calls to cellphones with VoIP arid 10% to 25% on national calls, depending on the destination and call volumes. A VoIP service can reduce the cost of calls to 0860 numbers by 25% against the average rate, he says.

If a company handles its own VoIP communication, it would need costly equipment and bandwidth infrastructure, and build direct relationships with overseas carriers.
It could cost R1m to set up the infrastructure for a 20-seat call centre, but now a company can rent the functionality and access it over an IP network. This is a good low-risk option for in-house and outsourced call centre operations, and will allow them to focus on lie business instead of managing and maintaining technology infrastructure.

Storm Telecom’s national network gets you connected to colleagues, partners and suppliers reliably and securely while allowing for future expansion and easy integration of major technologies such as VoIP and internet access. Bringing you the adaptation you require for getting up to speed with any innovation in data and voice technologies.

Choose The Best Phone Calling Card That Suits You

leave a comment »

Having access to a calling card when you are traveling on business or holidays is the best companion anyone could have. Your phone calling card will allow you to keep in touch with family and friends whether you’re out of your country and traveling internationally and phoning long-distance or not. In the simplest terms a calling card is basically a plastic card just the same as a credit card or some that I have received before when traveling is like a sales receipt that has a list of local connection numbers for different areas allowing you to access the main server at no extra long-distance fee. This is a very convenient way to make long-distance calls and also to purchase a phone card as you can buy them anywhere from convenience stores to newsstands to a lot of online retailers with very little effort. This prepaid calling card credit system will allow you to use the card the same way you want to depending on the policy of the calling card telecommunication system that you have chosen. The vast majority of today’s phone calling cards are a prepaid credit system and will give you time credit that you can purchase so you can make your calls. With this type phone card you use it till you run out of time. You also have the option on some to add more minutes to the card.

What is the best way to choose a calling card?

There are a few different things that you should keep in mind when you are researching and in deciding on the right calling card for your specific phone needs. Many phone cards will offer some great per minute rates but be aware and checked to see if they have any hidden costs or fees for the calls. One of the easiest and first hidden fees to look for is as surcharge added to your phone calls which is a fee for a connection surcharge and will be added to the cards time every time that you want to make a phone call. And it won’t matter how long you are on the phone call or the time the day. Connection calling card surcharges can vary from $.25 to 1.50 for each call. If you were to add this surcharge to the overall per minute charge and you make a lot of frequent calls to Europe the per minute rate will increase dramatically compared to what they offered to start with. Choosing the overall best calling card for you can be daunting so here are a few basic steps that can help you choose the right phone card.

· What destination will you be calling from? · What length of time will you need for the calls 30 minutes to one hour or maybe more? · Do you need a card with only international calling or do you plan on some domestic long-distance calls to? · Do you require a business calling card or a personal calling card? · Would you like the ability to recharge your card any time that you need to?

The calling card phone options are a very important step to understand make sure you read the fine print on any connection fees, maintenance fees and even termination fees.

How do I choose the best phone calling card?

When you have finalized your choice on a calling card remember that some fees may not be bad. For example if you only need a few calls made or for only a short time like two weeks you would be better off to have the maintenance fee. If you’re calling pattern is to make frequent long-distance international calls then choosing a card with no fees would be best allowing you no connection fee, maintenance fee. One tip to keep in mind that even though you have a calling card a hotel will usually still charge you with their own connection fee that can range from $.35 to a 1.50 per call. With this in mind always research the calling card and where you are going to make the call.

Business VoIP – Optimize Your Business with VoIP

leave a comment »

Every business relies greatly on communication to fuel its success. Since there are millions of potential clients and buyers out there, there should be an efficient and faster way to reach them. Now that the internet has been widely used for business transactions, it also gives businessmen the ability to make phone calls, just like a mobile phone or land line can do, thanks to Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

Many businesses today to turn to VoIP services because of the convenience it offers, not to mention the cost-effectiveness of having it installed. With business VoIP, a company isn’t confined in one location for an office, as the business can operate on a virtual environment. In this virtual arena, all employees are easily reachable, and if they are connected to the internet, they can make and receive calls from anywhere in the world.

Costs for starting up a VoIP network include software, hardware, installation, and customer support. Depending on the number of employees in your small or large business, you can have multiple lines for additional fees per month. The number of free minutes also varies with the plans, with options for both international and local calls for the US and Canada.

What makes business VoIP a smart solution for your office is that you eliminate the costs for long-distance calls with operators. Plus, you even have the option for an automated answering service, so there is no need to hire a full-time secretary to receive messages and calls. The virtual secretary transfers calls to extension lines, as well as records voice mail when needed. Voice mail may also be received as attachments in email.

You can also use business VoIP for tele-conferencing, and it also provides services for three-way calls, and call forwarding. Depending on the VoIP phone model, you can save multiple numbers, change ring tone styles, and set distinctive ring tones for specific callers, much like that of a mobile phone. There is a call hold feature, so another person within your VoIP office can pick up a call even if it is answered by someone else. When someone is on hold, you can upload a wav sound file to use as background music.

You can get all this and more when you sign up your business for VoIP services. There are tons of providers, plus there are more flexible calling plans to fit the needs of your business.

Using Your Phone While Traveling Can Be Cheap If You Plan Ahead

leave a comment »

The funny thing about traveling abroad is that, well, things are done differently in other countries. Go figure. You can’t plug in your hairdryer, your DVDs won’t work, and they have a different word for everything! With all these things, the next question may be, can you use your cell phone?

Possibly not. There are two main frequencies that cellphone providers use worldwide. In the U.S., Verizon uses the CDMA (code division multiple access) network, while Cingular and T-Mobile use the GSM (global system for mobiles) network. GSM is the standard frequency throughout most of the world, so if you have a CDMA phone it won’t work in many countries.

Verizon and Sprint are starting to sell phones that work with their “GSM” network, but they’re limiting – they don’t work in as many different countries as a standard GSM cell phone, so your roaming options are limited.

For cellular providers that do use the GSM system, it is important to confirm that the phone you have is either a “tri-band” (operates on three of the four major frequencies worldwide) or “quad-band” (works on all four major frequencies). Less expensive or older models may work on the GSM system but may not support the frequencies in use in the countries you are visiting. Most cellular service providers provide reference materials on their website so that you can look up your phone model, your calling plan and price out what setting up international roaming will cost. You can also call customer service and get pricing directly from a customer service representative.

The bad news that you may discover is that international roaming is quite expensive. Per minute charges run between $1.00 and $2.50 US. Going to areas without strong cellular infrastructures, such as Africa, can double these prices. If you travel often, you should consider international calling plans that take 20% – 40% off of the per minute pricing. Also, watch out for a big “gotcha” that is sometimes hidden in the fine print – voice messages may cost you twice, once when the message is left and again when you dial in to listen to the message.

Another problem with international roaming accounts is that all the calls you make are treated as long distance international calls, including calls you may make to your local hotel, restaurant and taxi company. If you think that this is what you will be using your cell phone for mostly while you travel, you can buy and insert a SIM card into your existing GSM phone. The SIM card replaces the existing chip in your phone (be sure to keep your existing chip for when you get home!) and, in effect, gives you a local number for the area you are traveling in. The bad news is that you will have a new number so you won’t be reachable at your old US number and your calls to the US, and vice versa, will be long distance international calls. What you save on local calls may make up the difference if most of your calls will be in the country where you are traveling. SIM cards come with a certain amount of minutes included in their price so be sure to guess accurately. Be sure to confirm with your cellular provider that your phone supports a SIM card prior to deciding on using them as a communication solution.

If your phone isn’t suitable or you want to consider another option, consider a GSM cell phone rental for the duration of your trip. You can rent a GSM phone or a satellite phone that can be used worldwide, and you can have the same phone number wherever you go. Each GSM international cell phone takes a SIM card designed for the country that you’re visiting which “unlocks” the phone and activates your phone number as a local number, making your calls in that country much, much cheaper. These can be ordered directly online from companies such as Telestitial .

Now to make this just a bit more confusing, Japan and South Korea use their own system called 3G. If you need a phone while traveling to those two countries, you will have to rent a phone, since no phone distributed in the U.S. support the 3G protocol.

If you’ll be traveling to a location that’s well off the beaten path, consider satellite phone rental. Many carriers offer satellite cell phones for users who are traveling abroad, and the phones themselves are usually designed for harsh environments, with extra-rugged, water- and dust-proof casings. Even if you’re in a jungle, you’ll be able to make calls, check e-mail and text message your friends and family. Some rental phones can work as both a cell phone and a satellite phone.

The absolute cheapest way to call home from overseas is by using calling cards. Calling cards are very popular outside the US and you can by them at most stores or magazine stands in pretty much every country in the world.

There are plenty of options to consider for your phone services when traveling. Determine what you believe your needs will be then check out the options you have to get the most for the least amount of money.

How to Use Prepaid Phone Cards

leave a comment »

Phone cards can be used in a variety of ways. It could be used to call from a land line, mobile or payphone to any regular phone. First times should not be afraid of not being able to understand and use it. All phone cards work in a similar way and its dialing instructions are very simple. These dialing instructions can be found at the back of each prepaid phone card. The first step, usually, is entering the access number. The next is the PIN code and lastly, the number of the destination that you want to reach and access.

In order to activate prepaid phone card, you must follow the processes instructed in your e-mail account after your request has been approved. If approved, you will be receiving immediately the PIN number in your e-mail account and you can use it immediately.

It is highly recommended that you should read the instructions at the back of the prepaid phone card before purchasing it so that you will be able to decide which prepaid phone card gives the best value for you money. Remember that the beauty of using a prepaid phone card is that you are able to make calls at a cheaper rate than regular phone subscriptions. It is cheap because you are able to keep track of your calls. After each call, you will hear a recorded message informing you of how much is left in your card and how many more minutes you can still consume. This service is important as you are able to gain control of the minutes that you have used.

Prepaid phone cards have lots of other services to offer their consumers. Most cards, for example, can be used from Payphones, Mobiles, and Hotels. Others also offer PINless dialing options for some countries like the United States and Canada. This PINless dialing option gives you a more hassle free experience when making your calls. It allows you to register several numbers and these numbers can be accessed without having to go through the hassles of entering your PIN number every time. Some prepaid phone card companies offer wireless cards. These cards are not used for making international calls. These cards give their users the easy recharging of their cell phone credits. Another service that consumers can enjoy is calling from ones computer to regular phones or cellular mobile phones anywhere in the world. This service offers amazing rates for its users by using their consumers’ internet connection to establish high-quality but low call costs.

Using prepaid phone cards using your telephone landlines at home is also a service that gives you a degree of control over your future telephone bills. For instance, if a local call is made then it would be charged through your regular telephone bill. However, international calls will not be included and its cost will only be reduced from the balance of your prepaid card. This type of accesses is advantageous to users since it gives them better rates for their international calls and can still be used from any type of telephone.

There are also prepaid cards that allow toll-free accesses. With this service, you are able to perform calls from a toll-free access. The total cost of your calls will be discounted from the balance of the calling card. You would not have to fear of being charged with additional fees. This service has a nationwide coverage. However, there are some hotels and payphone that restrict the use of this particular feature.

How to Get International Cell Phone Service

leave a comment »

If you are a business traveler who often travels outside the United States, you will need an international cellular service before you can make calls outside of the country. There are a few countries which are on a unified system which is known as global services for mobiles. These international services require a GSM phone and a SIM card which allows your phone to connect to local wireless carriers in whatever country you are in.

If you already have a cell phone service the chances are fairly high that your phone will not work outside of the United States. Some phones are sold as world phones but they too will have limits as to what countries they can be used.

There are different ways you can obtain GSM phone service while you are traveling outside the United States. One way is the sign up for a regular monthly account but this way is not practical since it would probably commit you to a contract for a year or more.

Roaming: You can always ask your current provider to switch you to global roaming and this would let you use your present phone almost anywhere in the world. This feature does have a big drawback. The roaming charges are very expensive. Some of them can be from $1 to $6 per minute so if you travel often and use your phone a lot this might not be the way for you to go.

Prepaid SIM cards: These cards provide a simple solution because they allow you to have a local phone number and calling rate in whatever country you are in. They are fairly inexpensive and will usually allow anybody to call you at no additional charge. The cost for these cards is bout $30 to $60 and they are usually active for up to a year. However, this can get confusing if you visit many different countries since your number would constantly be changing.

Global Roaming: There are a few companies that have programs that allow you to use your SIM in your phone in all of the countries you plan to visit. The best benefit to this is you will keep the same phone number and the rates are fairly reasonable. Your rates may be a little higher with this plan but you will be able to receive and make calls in about ninety countries around the world.

If you only travel outside the United States occasionally it might be more cost effective for you to buy a prepaid plan which is customized to meet your needs during travel. These might be a little more expensive but if you only travel rarely there is really no reason for you to buy a phone since the cost of a phone can run up to $200.

There are some tips to help keep your international calls at lower rates. Often if you have a prepaid SIM card it is cheaper for you to get incoming calls than it is to make an outgoing call. Call the person you need to talk to and ask them to call you back. Another way to save is to use the call back service. Call the number and hang up before anyone When they get an answer you will be on US service which is provided at a discount rate.
